Project Overview

The Adelaide Hills Retreat is a compact residential build in the Adelaide Hills, SA. The site demanded a system that could deliver strong thermal performance in a climate that swings between hot summers and cold winters — conditions where a leaky, poorly insulated envelope costs the occupant year-round. Panel Haus SIP panels were specified for the full wall and roof system, giving the build a continuous, uninterrupted thermal envelope from day one.

At 60 m², the project is compact by design — every square metre had to work hard. The 164mm wall panels and 284mm roof panels deliver a level of thermal performance that conventional framing would struggle to match at this scale without significant additional insulation work. The full structural envelope was installed in 4 days, allowing the builder to progress to lock-up without delay.

"We'd framed coastal homes the conventional way for 20 years. The problem was always the same — getting the air tightness right in a wind-exposed site takes real discipline from every trade on site, and you never quite know what you're going to get. With Panel Haus, the shell was right the first time. No chasing gaps, no retrofitting insulation into cavities. The install crew was two people and a crane. I'd have spent three times the labour hours with stud framing for the same result."
